The project and its development
Meet the founders and explore the proposed institution and its development. This page also sets out the status of agreements and decisions still to be made.
The museum, Safira and Dormant Palaces
Origins and responsibilities
The museum takes shape within Safira Al Andalus, the cultural, human and territorial project initiated by Dormant Palaces. Rafa Dávila and Olga Gómez are developing its museum proposal: an institution dedicated to researching, interpreting and sharing the Andalusi legacy.
The future institution will have its own cultural mission and independent scholarly governance. Development agreements will need to define its relationship with Safira and Dormant Palaces, each party’s responsibilities and the funding allocated to the museum.

How the project will be cared for
These principles guide the proposed institution and will need to be reflected in its governance agreements.
Scholarly independence
The council will bring together experience in history, heritage, education and museum practice, with different perspectives. Members will declare their interests. Funding will not confer the right to determine historical conclusions.
Sources and review
Each piece of content will have sources and a named person responsible. Historians and educators will review it before publication, distinguishing established knowledge from questions still debated. Significant corrections will be recorded.
Objects and reproductions
The visit will combine identified reproductions, digital archives and intangible heritage. Including an original object will require documented provenance and agreements covering conservation, rights and loan conditions.
An accessible visit
Teachers, communities and people with different access needs will contribute to the design. Trials will help establish what visitors understand, what supports learning and which barriers need to be addressed.

↳ The museum and its city
A building that belongs
in the life of its city.
The building should be worth travelling to, while feeling welcoming to those who live next door. That is why we envisage a square and courtyards with places to sit, even on a day when someone is not visiting the galleries.
For the host city, the proposal is an institution that works with local schools and takes its place in the cultural calendar. Its architecture will give it a presence; its programme will give people reasons to return.
